Frequently Asked Questions
There are three ways to get meals from us:
1. WAWWE Meal Plan - This is a subscription service that delivers 13 plant-based meals per week. The first delivery is on Sunday between 1 and 530pm and the second is on Tuesday between 1 and 530pm. Orders must be submitted by Friday at 9pm for delivery to begin that Sunday. We currently have a waitlist for this service; you can add your name to it, with no obligation to join, at the top of the Meal Service page.
2. A La Carte - This is a ‘select-exactly-what-you-want’ service. Food is available for either pick up or delivery on Thursdays between 2 and 530pm. Orders must be $80 or more to be delivered. Orders under $80 are to be picked up at the Woodshed (243 King Rd). All orders, for pick up or delivery, must be complete by Wednesday at 8pm to be ready the following day. Select items from the A la Carte page.
3. In person at the Woodshed - drop by 243 King Rd any time and see what’s available. The Woodshed is typically stocked with all the items you see on the website that week, until they are sold out.
You can sign up with your email address and the number of people in your family at the top of the Meal Service page. We currently have a waitlist which you will be added to. Once we are able to invite you off of the waitlist you will receive an email from us. There is no obligation to join the service if you join the waitlist.
The short answer is we don’t know. We are currently serving over 2500 meals per week and working fast and hard to be able to scale operationally and invite more people off the waitlist. If we could add everyone on the waitlist we would be serving 5000 meals per week. What we do know is that as soon as there is space for folks on the waitlist, they are emailed with an invitation to join. We add new people every week, and hope to get everyone an invitation to receive meals soon.
Yes! We understand that for various reasons, people may need to change orders from week to week. You can log in and manage your WAWWE subscription (see step by step instructions in the Managing Orders and Subscriptions section below). You may skip any particular week, pause your subscription until further notice, or cancel your subscription. You may also change the number of people on the subscription. The order will always be a week, with deliveries on Sunday and Tuesday, but the rest of the details are pretty flexible. We ask that all changes be made by Friday at 9pm the week prior to delivery.
Not yet. At the moment we are offering a set meal plan of 13 planet-friendly meals per week. In the future we want to offer variations like receiving only dinners, or receiving only gluten free items, as well as other customizations. Right now we are growing steadily and cannot make any variations from the set meal plan. We suggest that if there is an item that doesn't work for you, that you share it with a friend.
Not at this time. We would like to be able to bundle in extra items, but because we prepare the food fresh for delivery, the current schedule doesn’t coincide with the meal plan delivery. Soon we hope to offer a list of additional pantry items that can be bundled into any order.
All the food on the meal plan is plant-based, so it will always be dairy-free and meat-free. Everyone on the meal plan receives a weekly email with the menu for the week that shows the few items each week that are not gluten-free. We are not set up to provide a more specific list of ingredients at this time.
The A la Carte page lists all the items that are available. Add the items you want to your cart, and when you are ready, checkout. Please place your order by 8pm on Wednesday for it to be delivered or ready for pick up on Thursday between 2 and 530pm. Currently, a la carte website orders are only being delivered or picked up on Thursdays. Be sure to choose both the date and time to complete the checkout process.
Orders must be minimum of $80 to be eligible for free delivery. Orders may also be picked up at the Woodshed Thursday afternoons. Please note that the Woodshed farm stand stocks many of these same items, but they are not guaranteed to be available. Ordering from the website is the best option if you want something specific, or if you want it delivered.

Please email us and request the change you’d like. We’ll need this information by Wednesday at 8pm in order to make it into the delivery on Thursday afternoon.
The weekly meal service is delivered twice per week: once on Sunday between 1 and 530pm and once on Tuesday between 1 and 530pm. The Sunday delivery includes dinner for that evening, Monday’s breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Tuesday’s breakfast and lunch. The Tuesday delivery includes dinner for that evening as well as all meals for Wednesday and Thursday. The containers and crates are picked up at the same time as the fresh food is delivered.
The a la carte orders are delivered once per week, on Thursdays between 2 and 530pm. This is also when orders are available in the Woodshed to pick up.
There is no need to wash the containers as we will sterilize them before the next use. However, please return them empty of food, having been rinsed, and with the lids on.
If you are on the meal service and will be receiving more food in the next week or two, you can just keep your crate and rinsed containers until the next delivery. The freshly prepared meals will be delivered and the empty containers picked up at the same time. Similarly with the a la carte orders; if you have another delivery coming in the next week or two, you can just keep your empties and they will be picked up when your next delivery is dropped off.
If keeping the crates or containers doesn’t work for you, there are several ways you can return them to us:
1. Drop them off in the south end at the Woodshed (243 King Rd) any time.
2. Drop them off in town at the Legion any time between 2-6pm on Tuesday or Sunday (the downstairs entrance at 120 Blain Rd.)
3. Place another order, for either the Meal Service subscription or A La Carte meals and we’ll pick up your empties when we bring your delivery.
If none of the above options work for you please email us and we will work with you to figure something out.
Together Salt Spring can lead the way in sustainability. We welcome contributions of all kinds.
1. Please share with us your ideas for improvement, and communicate with others about the WAWWE initiative, and why changing our food cycle is so important.
2. Time spent volunteering with WAWWE puts into action ideas about eliminating single use plastic, diesel fuel, agro-farming and food additives, plus it supports our local farmers and food sustainability. Join us in this very tangible effort to make these changes happen. We welcome volunteers in a variety of capacities, (especially if you drive an electric vehicle!) - please tell us your skills and volunteer availability so we can do this together.
3. Donate to WAWWE. Put your money to work somewhere that will have an immediate and profound impact. Your donation supports our local community by providing nutritious food, employment, and food security. Every dollar we receive will be used to make planet-friendly, healthy meals affordable to as many Saltspringers as possible.
